Either through a donation, through time spent on helping with a fundraising event or simply by educating other people within the community about development issues, particularly education, you too can do your share to effect positive change within the global community.

All the money that is raised will go directly towards building the new school for the children as well as purchasing new educational equipment as per their needs.

Maheshwari Sampal
Maheshwari has been at the Abhilasha School for five years now and she says it is her “home away from home”. The 10 year old is a model student and loves singing. Maheshwari had an operation in 2007 for her leg which was affected by polio.

She was recently selected as the 2008 award winner of the National Painting competition. Maheshwari will be attending the award ceremony which will be held in October to receive her medal and prize. The Abhilasha school hopes to continue to foster her talents.

Durga
Durga has been at Abhilasha for the past 6 years and has made great friends while at the school. She was also operated in 2007 on her leg affected by polio. Durga comes from a big family - she has 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

The Abhilasha Project is hoping to open a clinic next to the new school to provide its students and children in the surrounding villages with basic health services and a vaccination program, to help prevent diseases such as Polio which have been effectively eradicated in North America and Europe.

Sita Sahu
Sita was only four years old when she joined the Abhilasha school on August 15th, 1995. In fact, she was the first child welcomed at the school. Now, after spending 17 years at Abhilasha, she timidly confesses that this is more than just a school - this is her home. Sita hopes to pursue a career in teaching and believes that an education is every child’s right, not privilege.
